We are still in Argostoli!! June and Steve on Piper are waiting until the dentist sorts out Steve's tooth so we are hanging on in the hope it is done in the next couple of days. Meanwhile June is looking for a fan. That's a Hella turbo 12V fan for the boat - not a person waving a flag. She has eyed up mine - the fans I mean - and wants one. The big problem is that the Hella turbo 12V fan is as scarce on Cephalonia as the Woolly mammoth - not many around! So we have been out everyday looking for one - a Hella turbo 12V silly - not a woolly mammoth. Common - keep up, this is important - well it is to June anyway.
So in anticipation of leaving possibly tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday at the latest, we went on a bus tour of the island today. Great value. Only 15 Euros each and we got to see some caves, an underground lake, Auy Euphemia (a town with a harbour) and Fiskardo (a harbour with a Chandlers - who didn't have a woolly mammoth - sorry Hella turbo 12V fan- either). The top end the island looks really nice with big mountains and crystal clear water. A nice place to explore by boat if we have the time later in the year.
In the aforementioned chandlers, Liz saw some fishing gear to tackled the guy about how to catch fish. We duly walked out with my credit card nearly 30 Euros lighter and Liz clutching a brightly painted Tuna lure, some more line and some prawn paste. Pam reckons that going to the fish shop is cheaper. We will see! As you know, fish have been pretty scarce on our travels. In fact other than wee Jim who was turned into wasp bait a few postings ago, the fish have been as plentiful as the aforementioned Hella 12V fans. I know this is getting confusing but bear with it. Woolly mammoths are not getting a look in.
Nothing more to add other than getting accosted by the customs guy on the key yesterday who seems overly keen on stamping our log and I think relieving me of 7 Euro per night for the five nights we have been here. I have however had a momentary lapse of memory and by the time I get to the office (probably tomorrow now), it may have only been 2 nights. Most people seem to do a runner and not bother. The fridge is working overtime keeping the beer cold as it is so hot - the weather not the beer - up in the high 30's again. The barometer has dropped today and there is some cloud around so it may just be cooler (if not winder) tomorrow.
So the plan now is to head back north, aiming to be in Levkas to drop Liz and Ju off by Tuesday and maybe trying to meet up with Jacky and Rob on Arwen in Vathi on Ithaca for a Blues night on Saturday. Probably post one more blog entry before we leave tomorrow.
